Drs. A. (Agnes) de Lima-Heijns

Biography
Agnes de Lima-Heijns was born in the Netherlands and raised in Surinam. She is first and foremost a mom to two boys. After studying orthopedagogics and mental health psychology in the Netherlands, she specialized in juvenile and adult forensic diagnostics, treatment and policy development. She has worked with a variety of forensic clients and victims in ambulatory and secured settings, reports to the courts and is a trainer in various risk assessment instruments.
In 2010 she and her family moved to her husband’s home island Curaçao, where she continues her forensic work at the Curaçaoan mental health hospital Klinika Capriles.
In 2015 she commenced a PhD trajectory “ the Curaçao Longitudinal Study of Juvenile Resilience and Delinquency ”, which was rewarded by the Dutch Scientific Council (NWO) in 2017. With the intent to inform policies and preventive interventions, this study hopes to find protective and risk factor pathways towards the development of resilience and delinquency in Curaçaoan youth.
