Clinical Neuropsychologist and healthcare provider Drs. Melva Croes-Yánez was educated at the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands. In 1990 she earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Neuropsychology and soon after started her private practice, the Neuropsychological Ambulatory Aruba (N.A.A.).

During her training in neuropsychology, she studied under Prof. Dr. Harry van der Vlugt, a prominent researcher and pioneer on Lateralization of Brain Functions and instrumental in the development of neuropsychology in the Dutch West Indies and in providing second opinion on neuropsychological diagnostics.

Drs. Croes-Yánez’ dissertation included “Bilingualism and Aphasia in adults” and worked on the translation and adaptation of an experimental Neuropsychology Test Battery in Papiamento and is considered a pioneer in the field of multilingual neuropsychological assessment, in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba in the languages: English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento. Croes-Yánez is listed in the Cross-Cultural Referrals Database of the International Liaison Committee of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS) for the region of Dutch Caribbean. For the past 20 years Drs. Croes-Yánez has organized several seminars and lectures together with Prof. Dr. Harry van der Vlugt in Aruba and Curaçao and worked with children (and their parents and teachers), adolescents, adults and the elderly with cognitive challenges in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

Her 20 years of experience is considered unsurpassed in the island of Aruba and Dutch West Indies and she has been until present the only clinical neuropsychologist in the West Indies to be a member of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS).

Drs. Croes-Yánez worked for several years for the Aruban Justice System covering among others psychological assessments to Police Officers, Coastguards and Correctional Facility Staff. Another aspect of her work included counseling, among others, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD), etc..

Drs. Croes-Yánez is also the founder and president of the Fundacion Alzheimer Aruba (F.A.A.); an organization that has become the leading authority on the island of Aruba in the field of Alzheimer’s and related neuro-degenerative diseases since 2003.
